Devonshire Place
Devonshire Place is an exciting new development of 20 supported flats owned by Cotman Housing Association and managed by Julian Housing Support. The scheme is the first to have been developed in conjunction with the Greater Norwich Housing Partnership. It has been built in response to the local demand for 24-hour supported accommodation. The first tenants moved in in March 2005.

The scheme is funded using a mixture of Health, Social Services and Supporting People funding. The support is based on the model used at Bakery Court, whereby the focus is on enabling individuals to do things for themselves, building upon strengths and helping people realise what they have to offer the community.

Residents of the scheme are assured tenants of Cotman Housing Association and there will be no time limit on the length of stay.

Devonshire Place is in a residential area in Norwich, close to the facilities on and around Dereham Road including a Post Office, GP surgeries, Pharmacy, Bank and shops.

All flats are self-contained. There are also 2 purpose-built disabled flats. In addition to their own living space, tenants will be able to use a communal lounge, gardens and guest rooms (by prior arrangement for overnight visitors)

Eight staff provide 24-hour support at least two available during the day and one person providing sleep in cover at night.

Referrals

As vacancies seldom arise we do not hold a waiting list. Initial expressions of interest should therefore be directed to the relevant Social Services team manager who will be notified when a vacancy arises.

Eligibility Criteria
An individual will have:
experienced ongoing mental health problems (probably for a number of years – possibly with high use of in-patient admissions)
the need, and want, for medium to long term accommodation with continuing support (likely to be no less than 2 years but with no upper limit)
It’s likely that the individual will:

have led an unsettled lifestyle and therefore be in need of a high level of housing support to anchor them in the community

or

may otherwise be in staffed, supported accommodation, eg. Registered care, hospital, but would benefit from a less ‘formal’ environment
An individual will be able to manage the following areas – with support where needed:
medication, if prescribed
budgeting
basic household tasks
Additionally an individual should be able:
to accept and share with people from a variety of backgrounds, ages and cultures*
to control any alcohol dependency/actively working towards eliminating illegal drug dependency**

Notes
*Whilst each tenant will have their own self-contained flat there will be an element of communal space and in our experience schemes seem to develop their own sense of ‘community’

**We feel that individuals for whom drug and alcohol misuse are the primary issues will not have their needs best met at Devonshire Place
