Since 2002 Julian Housing has had a full time post covering welfare rights issues across the Project. This role, provided by Jon Burke, concentrates on three main areas: Welfare benefits, money advice and housing law. Jon provides a consultancy role to all Julian Housing staff in these areas, and where appropriate on specialist casework.

Jon also provides training in the above areas to both Julian Housing staff and other agencies.

Welfare rights work is a crucial component of housing support. Making sure our clients have enough money to live on, are free from the burden of debt, and have safe and secure housing are the essential cornerstones for successful community living. Without sufficient financial resources social inclusion and models of recovery can never fully be realised. It is for these reasons that Julian Housing Support places welfare rights issues at the heart of its work.

Julian Housing through its welfare work is committed to ending poverty for our clients and the wider community. In addition to the in-house work we actively try and shape future policy through awareness raising and social policy work at local, regional and national levels.
